This week on Hey Brooklyn: BoneGunn is an experimental band that “lives for the gaining of experience”. Their combined shared experiences (plus maybe a little bit of former LSD usage!) has made writing songs an eclectic experience for them. As for the name? They told me that you can make up whatever story you want for it.
Their background of writing Irish folk music definitely shines through in the songs they played for us in-studio. We also included "Medicine Ball," a more rocking track off their self-titled EP, available on iTunes.
The band has started a project called “I Made an Art” with friend Anthony Dugo. Once a month, “I Made an Art” takes over a space in Red Hook for “an eclectic mix of artwork, music and strange experiences.” The next all-day event is June 12 and artists interested in participating (plus folks looking to check it out) can go to the website and email info@imadeanart.com.

4 days, 30+ venues, dozens of galleries, lots of showcases, hundreds of bands!
On any given day there's a ridiculous amount of music and art being made in New York City, but perhaps no more than in the four-mile radius of Williamsburg and Greenpoint. The Northside Festival celebrates that community of independent musicians, filmmakers and artists in the place where it thrives the most.
Featuring: Liars, Les Savy Fav, Titus Andronicus, F*cked Up, Polvo, Firey Furnaces, Men (feat. JD Samson of Le Tigre), Memory Tapes, Islands, Woods, Au Revoir Simone, Real Estate, Twin Sister, and over 250 more bands!
With more acts being added daily: ?uestlove, A. A. Bondy, Elvis Perkins in Dearland, The Grates, Madison Square Gardeners, Nouvellas, Sondre Lechre, Takka Takka, Tame Impala, Twin Shadow... check out the full schedule.
Throughout the festival, exhibitions, special events and musical performances take place at over 25 of the most respected art galleries in the 'hood.
New this year, a film fest will go down each night at indieScreen, a new 100-capacity art-house movie theater/music venue/restaurant and bar on Kent Ave and S 2nd St.
