BUY ONE, GET ONE HALF-OFF TICKETS TO THE METROPOLITAN OPERA, NYC & COMPANY’S NOVEMBER CULTURE SPOT

Arriving at the Metropolitan Opera at Lincoln Center, whether you’re a performer or an attendee, is an enthralling experience. In its 128-year history, the Metropolitan Opera has hosted some of the most notable performances in the city. This month the culture and tourism board of the City of New York honors the Metropolitan Opera as its November Culture Spot.
During the month of November, purchase a ticket to any performance of Satyagraha, Nabucco, or Rodelinda and receive a second ticket at half price. Critics rave about Richard Croft’s portrayal of Mohandas Gandhi as he fought for civil rights for the Indian minority in Philip Glass’ Satyagraha, a production which includes giant puppets, some more than 20 feet tall. (In case you can’t make it to the live performance this month, stop by your local movie theater for a nationwide broadcast of Satyagraha on November 19.) Experience Giuseppe Verdi’s Nabucco an opera based on the Biblical story that follows the Jews as they are assaulted, conquered, and exiled from their homeland by the Babylonian King Nabucco. It contains the popular chorus, “Va Pensiero”. For a political and romantic narrative, see George Frideric Handel’s Rodelinda, which features Renee Fleming as the female protagonist in eight stunning arias.
No matter which opera performance you attend from now through November 30, be sure to check here for the promo code to receive your second ticket half-off (with the purchase of one regularly-priced ticket).
To further celebrate this month’s Culture Spot pick, Annie Bergen hosts a special podcast with Satyagraha director Phelim McDermott and associate director/set designer, Julian Crouch that discusses the creative process behind the opera. Trivia questions about the interview will be asked over Twitter by @nycgo for a chance to win tickets to the three performances. To listen to the podcast and learn more about the Culture Spot program, visit nycgo.com/culturespot.
