Certainty has enjoyed a very long run. Now a theatre company has been asked to give it a proper sendoff.

Funeral of god, the new play by award-winning playwright Brian S. Brijbag, makes its world premiere at the Broadway Bound Theatre Festival. In this absurdist dark comedy, four members of a theatre company attempt the impossible: staging a funeral for god. Rehearsal soon becomes a philosophical labor dispute involving belief, grief, ritual, responsibility, and the inconvenient fact that nobody agrees on what the ceremony is for.

No deity is scheduled for burial. This is theatre, where the dead arrive on cue, the living ask for notes, and certainty has neglected to learn its lines.

Sharp, strange, and unexpectedly tender, Funeral of god asks what remains when the old answers stop answering. It plays four performances only at AMT Theater in Hell’s Kitchen. Tickets start at $30, a modest price for an evening spent inspecting the foundations of existence.
